/ University of Toronto Viewbooks & student recruitment

The University of Toronto is Canada’s top educational institution and is a world class leader in research and learning. The aim of this project was to revamp their veiwbooks to be more editorial and eye catching in order to reflect their status and attract top students from all over the world. I worked on this project for 2 years of viewbooks, the first introducing the new look and feel and the following year keeping much of the same interior flavour with a refresh to the cover following a similar theme.

The cover

The cover depicts an explosion of colour and imagery all emanating from the iconic University of Toronto shield. The idea was to show a number of intellectual, competitive and creative pursuits and achievements one can engage in while attending the university. We wanted to showcase multiple disciplines such as; the arts, sciences, athletics, mathematics, engineering, humanities and literary arts. All of these elements are set on a backdrop of colourful paint representing passion and creativity in all disciplines but also the uniqueness of each person’s journey as they learn.

The Cover Refresh

When creating the sequel to the 2019-2020 cover, we wanted to keep the same colourful and explosive energy but this time we had the added challenge of showcasing all three of the universities campuses in equal measure. We used an iconic building from each campus to not only represent the locations but to showcase the varied architecture, which ranges from historic and collegiate to modern and innovative. This also represents aspects of the University of Toronto itself, a progressive, cutting-edge facility with deep academic roots and legacy. Overall we wanted to keep a similar feel of expanding colour, so we decided to use explosions of coloured pigment to match the energy of the first cover.
